Samantha Cunningham, Junior PR and Marketing Executive:

Please give us a short introduction to you, how long you have been at Conscious Communications and your job role.

Graduating into the pandemic wasn’t easy and after an unorthodox start to my professional life, I am very happy to say that I have settled into life at Conscious Communications over the last three months. I originally come from a journalism background, and in these few months the team have helped me transfer and build on my skills.
I help the team with a range of clients, creating social media content calendars, writing press releases, undertaking proactive media follow up to secure clients coverage and carrying out research tasks. I am also taking the CC social media channels under my wing.

Have there been any particular highlights that you would like to share since you have joined Conscious Communications?

Coming from a journalism background I am familiar with the buzz of seeing your work in print and online, as well as creating content for social media platforms. Having said that, I still love seeing my words out in the world and that buzz hasn’t gone away. Being able to create content in these few months that has appeared on various client’s social media channels and in local papers has been just as exciting as my first by-line, I don’t think the excitement will ever go away.

What is your favourite aspect of the role?

My favourite aspect of the role is the diversity of clients I work with and tasks I work on. When I started in the role, I told the team I aspired to have a position which involved me doing something different every day, and they have certainly helped me to make this a reality.

What inspires you most?

To be working with a team and range of clients who are so ethical and forward thinking is inspiring. When you take on your first full time role you reach a point in the job search process where you start to compromise little by little on the ideal role and company.
It is truly inspiring to be able to say that in my first three months at Conscious Communications I have not had to compromise, they truly put people first.

What are some of your favourite visual public relations/advertising campaigns that other brands have created?

I absolutely love the work of the Innocent Smoothie marketing team. Their work stands out for creativity, having a unique voice. They always have their target audience front of mind in every single post they share.

I also really like the Nike Just Do It campaign, in particular the recent Emma Raducanu advert. The sentiment of the campaign is something that resonates with me whether in my sporting life or my creative one. The advert captured the pure joy and escapism that her winning match gave to so many in a time when it has been harder than usual to come by, uniting and providing hope. To be able to create that reaction from an audience in a few words, I can only hope to be able to “just do it” like that one day.
