Tom Evans, Senior PR & Marketing Executive:
Please give us a short introduction to you, how long you have been at Conscious Communications and your job role.
I joined Conscious Communications as a Senior PR & Marketing Executive in July 2022 – and arrived having spent a couple of years at another PR agency in Peterborough. My client portfolios have been consistently varied throughout my career, covering everything from housing developers and engineering consultancies to charities and multi-academy trusts, and they remain diverse to this day. At Conscious Communications, you can find me leading and supporting with the delivery of engaging PR content and copy – and overseeing campaigns for a wide-range of exciting clients.
Can you give us an overview of your first few months at the agency?
It’s been busy and bonkers, but brilliant! So far, I’ve taken a deep dive into a client that specialises in delivering medical care within remote locations across the globe, attended a planning committee meeting for a sustainable new development in Cambridge, and I even have a trip to Thorpe Park with 10,000 students in the diary for a client – yes, really!
Is there a piece of work you are particularly proud of, or a reason why you enjoy the role?
I love working with Cambridge City Foodbank, which does such inspiring work for local people in need across the city by providing three days’ of nutritionally balanced emergency food. It’s been so rewarding securing radio interviews for the charity so more people can learn more about the excellent work it does, as well as highlighting how volunteers can lend a helping hand this winter.
What inspires you most?
Helen Keller, one of the most well-known deafblind people in history, famous for her political activism, lecturing and writing, once said “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much” and I couldn’t agree more. Working as part of a team, alongside a group of dedicated, caring, and enthusiastic individuals who go above and beyond for each and every client inspires me more than anything – and I’m so fortunate to be a part of Conscious Communications.
What are some of your favourite visual public relations/advertising campaigns that other brands have created?
2022 has seen plenty of creative campaigns, but my favorite has to be an example from February when The LEGO Foundation announced it would donate 600 LEGO MRI scanners to hospitals worldwide for free to help children cope with the uncertainty of having an MRI scan. The compassionate move went viral on social media and attracted mass national coverage. But, more importantly, it helped children develop confidence, resilience and reassured them, as well as showcasing to other brands how such a small action can have a big impact. After all, who doesn’t love LEGO?
